DeKalb County officials release data breach notice to residentsDEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — Officials for DeKalb County have issued a notice of a data incident, saying several residents’ data may have been breached.
In the notice, it states that social security numbers, driver’s license or identification card numbers, and/or financial account numbers may have been leaked last year between August and September.
The amount and type of data likely vary person to person, but officials remind residents to remain vigilant against scammers.
The notice also says that individuals who may have been impacted will have access to identity protection and credit monitoring options at no charge. Additionally, U.S. citizens are entitled by law to one free credit report per year from each of the three primary credit reporting bureaus: TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax.
Residents can also place a fraud alert on their credit files with the credit reporting bureaus, as well as a credit freeze if they feel the need to do so.
